Barbara Roberts to lead commencement

Oregon's only woman governor, Barbara Roberts, will give the Spring Commencement speech and receive an honorary degree Saturday, June 16, at 10 a.m. at the Rose Garden Arena. More than 16,000 graduates and guests are expected to attend. read more >

Longtime president passes away

Joseph Blumel, Portland State's longest-serving president and the only one to have come up through the ranks, died April 2 after a recent heart attack. He was 79. A campus memorial service will be scheduled in the coming weeks. read more >

Event to welcome new athletic director

The campus community is invited to a reception welcoming Michael "Torre" Chisholm, Portland State's new athletics director, today, April 9, at 3 p.m. in 238 Smith Union. Chisholm has been associate athletic director for development and marketing at University of California, Irvine, since 2000, where he oversaw a two-fold increase in fundraising. read more >

Advertising class to help brand Morocco

Students from the PSU National Advertising Class have been chosen by the Moroccan American Trade & Investment Council to help with the next step in a comprehensive campaign to brand the country of Morocco. The class, under the guidance of Don Dickinson, took part in a fall competition held among universities in the U.S. and Morocco. read more >

Caroline Stoel passes away

Caroline Stoel, history alumna and teacher, founding member of Friends of History, and longtime volunteer and donor to the University, died March 29. She was 92. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, April 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at University Place. read more >

Give a gift to Portland State

Do you have a favorite program or scholarship fund on campus? Contribute to it through the Faculty and Staff Fund Drive. Last year, more than $500,000 was given to PSU programs by faculty and staff. Packets for 2007 were sent out last week asking for a one-time gift, a pledge, or a donation through payroll deduction. If you need a packet, contact Tracy Mendoza, director of annual giving, at 5-5049.

Art Auction planned for April 20

The Department of Art will hold its fourth "high & low" art auction to raise money for PSU art student scholarships Friday, April 20, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the PSU Art Building, 2000 SW Fifth Ave. The auction will include high-end professional pieces, quality student works, and donated goods and services.
