Charitable Fund Drive a success

Final numbers are in for the 2007 Charitable Fund Drive at PSU. More than $54,000 was donated by faculty and staff to nonprofits in Oregon—a 15 percent increase over last year.

Everybody invited to read A Long Way Gone

Portland State is again offering lectures, exhibits, workshops and film screenings with local scholars and authors as a partner with Multnomah County Library's "Everybody Reads" project. The PSU sponsored events begin Feb. 1 and are focused on this year's book selection, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah. read more >

Telluride Mountainfilm featured this Thursday

The Outdoor Program at Portland State and Portland Mountain Rescue are hosting Telluride Mountainfilm on Tour Thursday, Jan. 31, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. in the Smith Union Ballroom. The event includes a raffle, silent auction, and a selection of adventure films from the international festival held each May in Telluride, Colo. All proceeds benefit Portland Mountain Rescue. Adult tickets are $10 in advance at the PSU Box Office and $12 at the door. read more >

'Shift Happens' on Feb. 1

How do communities move or shift towards social sustainability? This is the subject of the free Social Sustainability Colloquium "Shift Happens!" Friday, Feb. 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. in 327 Smith Union. The speaker, Jeff Goebel, is a watershed planner with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resource Conservation Service. read more >

News from the Oregon Legislature

The PSU Government Relations office, under the direction of Jesse Cornett, is gearing up for a special session of the Oregon Legislature Feb. 4 through 29. Campus again taking part in Recyclemania competition

Portland State is competing for its third year in Recyclemania, a nationwide recycling competition that began Jan. 27 and continues through April 5. Faculty, staff, and students are competing against other universities to see which school can collect the largest amount of recyclables, the least amount of trash, and have the highest average recycling rate campus-wide. read more >

Learn about Professional Development Center technology classes

The public is invited to learn about gaining new confident and skills in business and technology through Portland State's Professional Development Center. Information sessions on classes in Internet Design and Technology, Interactive Producer, Information Technology, and Six Sigma begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Simon Benson House.
