Blumenauer to talk on transportation
Oregon's Congressman Earl Blumenauer is guest speaker at the weekly Transportation Seminar Friday, Oct. 26, at noon in 204 Distance Learning Center. His presentation, "Transportation Infrastructure Investment: Past, Present and Future," will focus on the anniversaries of the 1808 and 1908 national plans and the next transportation reauthorization bill. The lecture series is hosted by the PSU Center for Transportation Studies and the Oregon Transportation Research and Education Consortium. 'What's the Big Idea?'
Michael Shellenberger, co-author of Break Through: From the Death of Environmentalism to the Politics of Possibility, is the first speaker in a new lecture series titled "What's the Big Idea?" Another Viking Fans Friday (and Saturday, too)
The Portland State Bookstore is selling PSU apparel and merchandise for 25 percent off to members and 15 percent off to non-members Oct. 26 and 27 in honor of the home football game Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Weber State at PGE Park. Membership is easy and free. Staff, student, and faculty are encouraged to wear PSU gear on Fridays in support of the entire University.
Local, early roots of baseball discussedLong before multi-million dollar salaries and astro-turf, organized base ball (then spelled in two words) made its debut 140 years ago in the Pacific Northwest. Alumnus Greg Shine, chief ranger and historian at the Ft. Vancouver National Historical Site, will discuss "On the Fly: The Rise of Base Ball in the Portland-Vancouver Area" Thursday, Oct. 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. in 238 Smith Union. The event, sponsored by the Friends of History, will start with dessert and coffee.
Interim appointed to Government Relations post
Jesse Cornett has been named interim assistant to the president for Government Relations. Cornett replaces Debbie Murdock, who passed away in August. Cornett served as the Government Relations associate from December 2006 to September 2007. Before coming to PSU, he was a senior policy advisor and legislative liaison to Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury. read more >
