Portland to be scene of emergency exercise

During the week of Oct. 15 to 19, state and local governments will participate with the federal government in a national emergency exercise in Portland. You may hear news reports of bombs exploding or of poisonous clouds in our region. This is all part of an exercise to test Oregon's ability to respond to an emergency and protect and care for its citizens. Portland State is serving as an observer to the exercise.

This "Top Officials" exercise is conducted every two years by the federal government. This year, the exercise involves detonation of simulated "dirty bombs" in Portland, Arizona, and the island of Guam. For more information, read the frequently asked questions at oregon.gov/DAS/.
