Magic Johnson to speak at Simon Benson Awards Dinner


Basketball great and successful businessman Magic Johnson will be the featured speaker for the University's annual Simon Benson Awards Dinner March 19 at the Oregon Convention Center. University budget process online


All proposed 2007-2008 budgets for University units have been submitted and are now being deliberated by the University Budget Team, which consists of Roy Koch, Lindsay Desrochers, Carol Mack and Mike Fung. The team will discuss its budget recommendations with the Faculty Senate Budget Committee and open forums are planned April 9 and 11. Athletics director finalists coming to campus


Two of the four candidates for the position of PSU Athletics Director are scheduled to be on campus this week and next. An open forum with Torre Chisholm, University of California Irvine, is Thursday, March 1, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in 298 Smith Union. Pete Isakson, Washington State University, is scheduled Monday, March 5, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in 329 Smith Union. Work groups discuss academic priorities


Work groups began meeting this month to make recommendations on the four priorities that support PSU's core leadership position of engagement. Asked to take a campus-wide perspective by Provost Roy Koch, the members are charged with defining the priorities, recommending criteria for activities in the priority areas, and finding ways to measure their effectiveness over the next three to five years. Author Judy Fong Bates to give free talks March 1


Midnight at the Dragon Café author Judy Fong Bates will speak on campus March 1 as part of Multnomah County Library's Everybody Reads program. She will discuss her life and work at 7 p.m., and present a program for teens and adults titled "Tales from a Chinese Canadian Childhood" at 1 p.m. Both events are free and in the Smith Union Ballroom. read more >

Reclaiming Futures receives $6.5 million


The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has announced a national expansion of its Reclaiming Futures initiative, housed at PSU's Graduate School of Social Work, citing the program's success in getting more services to teens in the justice system who are struggling with drugs and alcohol. Top honors awarded to PSU Bookstore


The Independent College Bookstore Association has recognized Portland State Bookstore as the "Most Valuable Player - For Overall Outstanding Performance." This award is based on the results of operating surveys conducted by the association over the past five years. read more >

View micro wind turbines before installation


Oregon Wind will showcase the brightly colored micro wind turbines it will be installing around campus on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in 328 Smith Union. Portland State is serving as a laboratory for the lightweight turbines, which are suitable for urban environments. read more >
