An educational experience unlike any other, in a place unlike any other. Working together for the common good.

Because that’s life in today’s world. Complexity is the norm. Issues inevitably intertwine. There are no simple answers. And sound responses demand inventive thinking.

At the Portland State University College of Urban and Public Affairs, the metro region is our laboratory. And we love to get out in it. It’s the proving ground where our students and faculty team with community organizations, imagine original solutions, and implement them in realtime. And community leaders—including current and former elected officials, political consultants, real estate and health care professionals, school board and city commission members—come to our classrooms to teach the invaluable lessons of their own experiences.

Ultimately, these concrete lessons prepare our students to become effective civic leaders. Upon graduation, they’re professionals equipped to improve the livability of the regions where they choose to settle and frequently it is right here in the Portland metropolitan region.
