Portland Metro Education Partnership

Portland State University partners with school districts and other Portland-area teacher preparation institutions to develop a strong work force for our schools.

We believe that when schools and universities work together, we can offer better preparation and ongoing support for both new and veteran teachers alike.  Well prepared and supported teachers are an integral component of student achievement.

Partnerships manifest differently depending on the needs of each school. Some partnerships may match pre-service teachers with well-qualified mentor teachers promoting teacher retention and student achievement. Partnerships could allow research to be conducted by faculty or doctoral students which informs our ever-growing understanding of teaching and learning. Partnerships may also offer professional development opportunities to all teachers or perhaps first year mentoring for new teachers. Just as each school is unique, so is each partnership.
