What is PSU Alert?

PSU Alert is an emergency notification system used to send emergency alerts, notifications and updates to your cell phone, pager, phone and e-mail account. In the event of an emergency, (fire, inclement weather, etc.) the PSU administration will be able to send important alerts and updates right to your preferred point of contact.

How do I sign up for PSU Alert?

Any PSU student, faculty or staff may “OPT-IN” or “OPT-OUT” of the PSU Alert emergency notification system by logging into https://banweb.pdx.edu/ You can add multiple points of contact (cell phones, pagers, (2) email addresses) to your PSU Alert Emergency notification system account. Alerts can be sent to all listed points of contact you list when you “OPT-IN”.

What does “OPT-IN” mean versus “OPT-OUT”?

OPT-IN

If you choose to “OPT-IN”, you will receive emergency notification messages from Portland State University.

In order to “OPT-IN”, you must log onto https://banweb.pdx.edu/ using your PSU account and follow the prompts which will allow you to register during the first weeks of the each term.

In order to update/alter your contact information, you must log-in into the PSU Information System https://banweb.pdx.edu/pls/oprd/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin and select Personal Information from the menu. Then select PSU Alert from the menu and fill in the appropriate fields.

OPT-OUT
You will not receive emergency messages from Portland State University.

How does the PSU Alert emergency notification system work?

In an emergency situation an alert will be sent from the PSU Alert emergency notification system administrator and you will receive a text message, email, or voicemail depending upon how you chose to be notified. Read these messages promptly and follow the instructions.
Additional instructions may follow throughout the emergency situation so be sure to enter accurate contact information.

Who sends out alerts?

All PSU Alert messages will be the official safety and emergency messages of Portland State University. PSU Alert messages will be crafted and sent by one of several delegated administrators.

What types of alerts will be sent?

Alert types may include life safety, weather, accidents involving utilities or roadways, or other emergency information PSU administrators feel necessary.

  • PSUALERT – Situation on campus. Remain in or proceed to a secure location until further notice. Visit www.pdx.edu and check e-mail for details.

Why do T-Mobile subscribers have to confirm that they wish to receive text messages?

  • T-Mobile requires that subscribers confirm they wish to receive messages. This requirement was put into place to limit the amount of SPAM users are sent.
    • What you will be sent on October 20:
      • “P S U ALERT: You have asked to receive SMS alerts from us. You must text reply “Y PSU” to confirm this request”

Why am I receiving text message confirmations?

  • New telecommunications regulations require that PSU send a confirmation message to all persons that have opted to receive text messages.
    • What you will be sent on October 20:
      • “PSUALERT: You are confirmed to receive alerts based on acct settings. More info text reply “HELP” or “STOP PSU” to opt-out.

        Why test?

      • PSU tests PSUALERT quarterly to ensure that the system is functioning appropriately. What you will be sent: “PSUALERT: This is just a test. Please update information at banweb.pdx.edu/OptOut reply STOP PSU” How do I update my information?
