Local Food Choices Become More Convenient: The Green Zebra Story
As Portlanders we care about what we eat and are always looking for healthy choices. There is a new option for those living in the Kenton Neighborhood of North Portland, Green Zebra.
Green Zebra is a small format retail grocery concept focused on convenient natural foods for a broad range of customers in a local neighborhood. It is a unique convenience store that targets informed shoppers looking for healthy food on the go. Green Zebra CEO Lisa Sedlar will share her vision for this new brand of convenience store, discuss her plans for expansion, and share her ideas about the local grocery food scene
Evelyn Galloni with R&H Construction led the construction team for this new store on N. Lombard Avenue. Starting with an abandoned Chinese Restaurant, the building was completely transformed from a dark, tired space into a bright vibrant backdrop to showcase the fresh, local, and organic food choices. Evelyn will discuss ways the building’s “good bones” were revealed and the many salvaged, reused and sustainably minded materials that brought the building to life. Due to it’s creative re-use of materials, the project was the recipient of a 2014 Association for Retail Environments Sustainability Award.
