EMU Mission
To safeguard the education environment of Portland State University through the application of a comprehensive emergency management program of mitigation and prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
Incident Command System (ICS/NIMS)
Portland State University began training its first responders, key facilities personnel, and administrators in the Incident Command System (ICS) over 18 months ago. The ICS structure, the management component of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), has been adopted nation-wide for use during emergencies and disasters.
ICS Training is only one step in the development of a comprehensive emergency management plan for the University and is an essential part of moving PSU towards its goal of becoming a “disaster resistant university”.
All personnel in a leadership role (administrators, faculty, staff, student leaders, etc) are expected to become familiar with ICS.
Training consists of one 4.5 hour Intro to Incident Management course. Upon completion of the course, a certificate will be issued.
Please refer to www.fema.gov to learn more about ICS and NIMS.
