Public Safety's mission is to create stronger relationships and work with the campus community in various programs and events.
University Safety Committee: The Portland State University Safety Committee is an advisory group of University employees including Student employees, Faculty, Management, Classified and Unclassified Staff and Administration. Members volunteer or are elected from the different employee labor organizations of PSU. The committee meets at least once a month to review safety related incidents and concerns. Safety inspections of campus facilities are held on a quarterly basis. Safety training sessions for members are held frequently. Recommendations resulting from employee concerns, incident review, and safety inspections are directed to the President of the University.
ADA/Physical Access Committee: Addresses the broad range of issues that
affect individuals with disabilities (e.g. facilities, classroom accommodation,
technology, parking, and safety). This committee is composed of members from
offices responsible for ensuring compliance with University policies related to
individuals with disabilities and representatives from groups affected by the
related policies.
The Campus Alcohol and Other Drug Policy Committee: Reviews,
develops, and recommends policy concerning Alcohol and Drugs at PSU. In
addition, the committee develops programs to assure the responsible
and appropriate use of alcohol in the campus community.
PSU Suicide Awareness Task Force:The Public Safety Office works with Student Health and Counceling (SHAC) on resources on suicide prevention for students.
Student Center for Dispute Resolution Advisory Board (SCDR): (MOU): work with us to establish an alternative dispute resolution mechanism for certain interpersonal student conflicts on campus that are currently handled as criminal or disciplinary matters.
Interpersonal Violence Task Force (IPVTF): The Public Safety Office has a working relationship with the Women's Resource Center (WRC) to provide support, resources to students.
Metro Director's Consortium: is designed for university/college public safety/security directors in the Portland Metro area to come together to collaborate and network with one another on issues that are prevalent to the publics safety and security.
Campus Public Safety Advisory Committee (CPSAC): Provides the Director of the Campus Public Safety Office (CPSO) and the University administration with regular input on the Office of Campus Public Safety and its impact on the campus community. The primary role of the CPSAC is to advise and consult, with an emphasis on building and maintaining communication between the university community and the Campus Public Safety Office.
Resource Fair: Each year the Orientation office hosts a welcoming to new PSU students. Public Safety participates in various events handing out resource material, talking to the public, and giving speeches (Events: Resource Fair, Viking Scavenger Hunt, Party in the Park, etc.)
Safety Presentations: Upon request, Public Safety will give a safety presentation to faculty, staff and students. It is an interactive presentation where people can address issues that they have had while being here at Portland State University.
