Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit and Public Management
The Institute for Nonprofit Management and Center for Public Service at Portland State University are pleased to announce a newly designed Graduate Certificate program that focuses exclusively on current and future nonprofit leaders. This offering represents a new initiative joining our robust collection of nonprofit programs with the public management offerings at the Center for Public Service.
The new Graduate Certificate draws on a proven cohort model to prepare students for leadership positions in nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. Over the course of a year (7 courses, 21 credit hours) students will be challenged to examine effective strategies to wrestle with the “wicked” problems affecting the nonprofit sector and society at large. Courses will study issues such as cross-sectoral boundary blurring and shared leadership; new resource development strategies including entrepreneurial activities, grantmaking and philanthropy; and social impact measurement.
Prospective students must have experience in their sector, be highly self-motivated about their education, and be prepared to build strong peer relationships. The intensive format of the program requires students be committed to the full-year of study.
This program is suitable for students with an existing advanced degree, mid-career changers, or those with substantial managerial or supervisory experience.
