For the second year in a row, a team of undergraduate and graduate finance students has won the regional competition in the CFA Society Investment Research Challenge.

The team spent three months developing a valuation of Umpqua Bank. Their ten-page analyst’s report and twenty-minute presentation to a panel of CFA judges came out on top among teams from four regional business schools. The team is one of the 50 selected among 800 for the final Western Hemisphere competition in Denver this March.

Anastis Anastasiou, team member and undergraduate Business student, calls the competition a wonderful learning experience. "It allowed us to develop our finance acumen and understanding of corporate valuation," said Anastasiou. "The fact that we had to evaluate a bank made the process more challenging but most certainly rewarding."

School of Business Finance faculty Brian Bolton, Piman Limpaphayom, and Dan Rogers, along with community advisor Bruce Nister, served as team advisors. Team members Anastasiou, Eryn Brown, Ben Fry, Brody Welch, and Fan Yang will compete in the next round of the challenge in Denver, Colorado from March 18-19.

UPDATE: The PSU team finished in the top 20 (semifinal round) at the national competition last week in Denver. Congratulations on a great run!
