Dr. Ortiz, Professor of Materials Science & Engineering and Dean for Graduate Education at MIT has worked on minority issues in higher education as well as best practices in mentoring. Her teaching interests include: solid mechanics, mechanical behavior of materials, continuum mechanics, plasticity, polymer mechanics, rubber elasticity and nanomechanics.
She will offer you the opportunity to discuss her career path, her struggles as an underrepresented student, and how she became Dean at MIT.
