Where: Smith Memorial Cascade Room 236
What: Robert McBride from KOAC: All Classical Portland’s Club Mod: radio at the intersection of classical and modern.
Robert McBride presents classical music weekday afternoons on Portland’s All Classical FM and also hosts the station’s Club Mod program on Saturday nights, from 8:00 to 10:00. Robert has worked in radio, mostly with classical music, for thirty years, in Oregon, Washington, New York, and Washington, DC. He’s also a composer and percussionist. His next work, inspired by Igor Stravinsky’s ballet The Rite of Spring, will be premiered in March.
The first Club Mod program, titled Blame it on Beethoven, hit the airwaves on October 20th, 2007. Over the past five years the show has presented music from as old as the 5th century BC to brand-new, 21st-century compositions. While keeping the focus on modern music, the program often puts new music in context by exploring older music that was modern for its time or that continues to inspire the composers of today. Portland-pcomposers and performers are often featured on the show, and sometimes interviewed.
