Thank You!

Thank you for supporting students, faculty, and academic excellence
at the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences!

You made an impact during the 2011-2012 academic year. Here are just a few stories of ways annual gifts, like yours, make a difference:

Giving Back

Before graduating this spring with a double major in History and Women Studies, Anna Rigles established a travel scholarship for students in the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department. Inspired by the award she had received, she decided to give back to ensure future students receive the same opportunities as she had. At Portland State, it's not just our alumni and community partners who see the benefit in supporting student success. Click here to learn more about Anna and her new scholarship.

 Alumni Giving

Ramon Torrecilha '84, MS '86 taught himself English with the help of a bilingual Bible. The former migrant worker arrived at Portland State eager to learn, and after two quarters studying English, he enrolled in a Sociology class. The support from his Sociology professors inspired him to believe "education was within reach." Ramon is now the provost at CSU Dominguez Hills. This year, he gave to the department that started his academic journey. Learn more about Ramon's story here

Dean's Circle

This fall, alumna and donor Carol Walker shared her Portland State story and why she jonied the inaugural CLAS Dean's Circle: ". . .being part of Portland State has given me so many unexpected opportunties. I could not be more grateful."

We were excited to welcome over 100 new alumni and friends to the '11-'12 CLAS Dean's Circle. Our members' giving allowed Dean Susan Beatty and CLAS department chairs to support the most urgent needs of the College, such as student awards, new lab and classroom equipment, and engaging events.

48th Annual Kellogg Awards Ceremony

Annual giving also makes special events like this year's Kellogg Award Ceremony possible. Two dozen promising authors, poets, and journalists received awards at the English Department's annual celebration for recognizing PSU's oustanding student writers. The nearly 300 guests in attendance were also treated to a special reading by Junot Diaz, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. Science & Research Teaching Center

Our students and faculty now enjoy an expanded and modernized science facility, thanks to the generous support of our public, private, and individual donors. Built as "Science Building 2" in 1971, the new Science & Research Teaching Center (SRTC) completed a $46.5 million makeover, and is now greener, safer, bigger, and better. Read more about this state-of-the-art building here.
