The Center for Japanese Studies presents:

"Swordless Samurai: Bushido in Today's Japan"

February 6, 2008; Wednesday, 5PM

Smith Center Room 236

Japan's image in the U.S. today seems to be that of a "Lost in Translation" neon phantasmagoria. Yet a deeply traditional, centuries-old philosophy--Bushido, the chivalrous samurai code of behavior--is a far more useful way to understand Japanese culture. Drawing on research from two of his books, The Swordless Saumuri and The Prosperous Peasant, as well as a decade of experience living and working in Japan, author, translator, and entrepreneur Tim Clark shows how Bushido is key to understand Japanese society.
