A public lecture about Korea & China Relations in the 1880s

Dr. Patterson's talk will draw from research in his new book, In the Service of His Korean Majesty: William Nelson Lovatt, the Pusan Customs, and Sino-Korean Relations, 1876-1888. Using newly discovered data, Dr. Patterson will paint a picture of what life was like in Pusan, Korea in the 1880s, and will shed light on what China was trying to accomplist in Korea at that time.
