Graduate Teacher Education Program

The Graduate Teacher Education Program (GTEP) prepares candidates for teaching students in four authorization levels: early childhood (age 3 - grade 4), elementary (grades 3-8), middle level (grades 5-9), and high school (grades 7-12).

The goal of the GTEP is to prepare outstanding teachers who are strong in subject matter, expert in instructional decision-making and practices, and committed to educational excellence in the service of fair and humane schools and society. Students in the program are organized into cohorts, groups of students who participate in course work together.

Cohorts begin summer term and take four sequential terms to complete. Field experiences in schools typically coincide with the public school calendar. Responsibilities in school settings increase from term to term as course work decreases.

Secondary students may also prepare for the following endorsements: art, business, drama, foreign language, health/PE, language arts, math, science (including integrated science, biology, chemistry, and physics), social studies, communication, and speech hearing science.

A Master of Education (M.Ed.) can be earned with an additional term of planned course work.
