Dan Blue
Faculty Research Associate within the Center for Urban Studies and CES Program Manager since June of 1998. Dan currently is Principal Investigator for the Port of Portland Waste Minimization Project, various Multifamily Recycling projects, the Single Family Weight Study, and the Metro Recycle at School project, among others. Dan is responsible for day to day leadership of the organization, negotiating research and service projects, coordinating with funding partners, and CES administrative responsibilities within the University. Prior to entering the research conservation field, Dan served as Program Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Portland, and has worked with refugee populations in Portland and abroad. Dan is inspired by the natural environment around him, the brilliant and hardworking students and faculty that comprise CES, and his family to continue to work towards a more sustainable society. Shanna Eller
Project Coordinator for assistance to government facilities in Portland since February 2003, Shanna joined CES with extensive experience working with business and multiple aspects of community development. Shanna's previous tenure has included five years with one of Portland's Office of Neighborhood Involvement coalition offices, staffing Multnomah County's Strategic Economic Investment Program, as an associate with the Tennessee Valley Authority, and as a program officer with the Chicago Rehab Network's coalition of community-based housing development corporations. Shanna is currently completing her PhD in Urban Studies at PSU. Her dissertation in the works is an environmental sustainability program input, output, and impact evaluation of efforts in multiple U.S. cities. Contact Shanna Eller.
Renée Bogin
After 3 years working as project coordinator or manager at CES on
various government multifamily projects, Renee was recently hired by CUS to work with Metro to improve multifamily recycling
around the region. She is finishing up her Master of Urban
Studies Program at PSU and will begin the doctorate program soon.
Her main areas of study are community development and transnational
civil society with particular interests in sustainability efforts and
social movements across international borders. Her studies and work are
complemented by a diversity of life experiences, most significantly
extensive travels around the globe and a visit to every state in the

Thomas Egleston
Thomas Egleston is the Field Services Coordinator, working
on the Single Family Weight Study and the Events Recycling projects. Tom has
been a life-long native to the Northwest, attaining his undergraduate degree in
Political Science from the University
of Oregon in Eugene
and soon thereafter migrating to Portland where
he is working on his Masters of Public Administration at Portland State
University. In his
graduate studies Tom has been focusing on Natural Resource Policy, Waste
Reduction and Sustainability and the applications of Geographical Information
Systems (GIS) to the mix. In his spare time Tom enjoys the outdoors by climbing
mountains (Baker, Adams, St. Helens in summer
of 2007), backpacking, rock climbing, skiing and other mountain related
activities.
Will Elder
Project Coordinator for the Doubletree
Sustainability Assessment Project, Will has been with CES since 2006. Before
starting the Doubletree Sustainability Assessment Project, he worked as a Recycling
Specialist, assisting businesses in Portland
with waste reduction strategies. Prior to his work at CES, he worked in the
hospitality industry and has over 7 years experience in hotel management. Biking is his favorite way of getting around,
and he enjoys gardening, travel and exploring new foods. He’s also active in
his community and serves on the board of his neighborhood association as well
as the board of the area neighborhood coalition. He has a BS in Economics, is
currently enrolled in the Masters of Urban and Regional Planning program with a
specialization in transportation, and is also working on a graduate certificate
in Real Estate Development.
Kaleen HydeKaleen Hyde is the Portland Multifamily Coordinator for the Office
of Sustainable Development. She has also contributed to Metro's
research on multicultural multifamily communities throughout the
region.
Caroline Leary
Graduate Research Assistant, PDX Airport Waste Minimization Program. Caroline, a native Bostonian, came to Portland to enroll in the Masters of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) program. She misses the Red Sox, but loves Portland and can't get over how green it is. She likes running, skiing, hiking, and just being outside. She's excited to check out the Oregon coast and other parts of the west.
Meredith Sorensen
Meredith Sorensen is Project Coordinator for the Port of Portland Waste
Minimization Project. With 14 million passengers annually, 15
passenger airlines, and more than 34 Concessionaires, PDX Airport is a
complex institution that requires creative solutions for handling its
waste stream. Meredith dives into the Port Project (sometimes
literally) every day. She received her Masters in Public
Administration from PSU in March 2008. Meredith recently received
a fellowship to study waste management strategies in Norway, the
Netherlands, Germany, Mexico, Honduras, and Costa Rica. She
leaves for her "trash travels" in September 2008. In the meantime
you can find her trail running, swimming, biking, and playing ultimate
frisbee.
Ryan Trif
A junior studying business administration at PSU, Ryan
started working for CES in March 2007. He works with Tom Egleston on the single
family weight study and event recycling, and also for Shanna Eller’s waste sort
team. Ryan is a native Portlander, and says he loves the city and wants to help
improve it for the future. He finds it gratifying to live in a city where
people care about their environment, and enjoy clean, beautiful parks and
lush forests. His involvement at CES ensures that he’s doing his park to keep Portland the beautiful
place that it is. Ryan is an avid runner, and enjoys working out in his spare
time. Bridger Wineman
Multifamily recycling assistant. A long-standing love of cities and mountains drew Bridger to Portland five years ago from Montana. He is especially interested in progressive community planning and hopes ot study in the MURP program at PSU after graduation. He is interested in exploring how issues of environmental and social justice can be addressed concurrently. On weekends he enjoys exploring remote alpine wildernesses, but is happy to settle for a long bike ride and a pint at the Lucky Lab with his wife, Felecia.
