PORT OF PORTLAND
Since 2002, CES has worked with the Port of Portland to help achieve the Port's waste reduction goals. CES conducted assessments of the Port's aviation, marine, navigation, and administrative facilities. Using data from these waste audits, CES assisted the Port with the following program developments:
- Instituting a food waste diversion program, whereby PDX airport food and beverage tenants send approximately 12 tons per month of pre- and post-consumer food waste to a composting facility.
- Developing "PDX Recycles" and "PDX Food Waste Diversion" brochures for education and outreach.
- Hosting bi-annual "Clean Up" events, whereby airport tenants safely dispose of their bulky, non-hazardous items.
- Developing the "Partners for Food Waste Collection" program.
- Generating press through news stories and journal publications.
CES continues to assist the Port by offering on-the-ground assistance with their waste minimization activities.
