Sustainable Financing and Economics through Visions of Complementary Currencies

Please join us to explore the ever-growing dilemma that is our current financing system . . . and available and viable solutions. Our focus today is on complementary currencies and how they can help empower local communities and government to create meaningful employment and reclaim a future for our public commons and the public good. 

Our global, profit-driven financial system has led to dangerous rips in our social safety net, ever widening income, wealth, and health disparities, gaping holes in our health care system, and serious threats to our fragile ecosystem. In the realms of public health, environmental sustainability, and non-profit and local government services, we have plenty of meaningful work to be done and plenty of people with the skills to do it who are unemployed or underemployed and barely able to get by. Finding the financing to match these needs with underutilized resources is an ever-growing dilemma within our current financing system.

Join us at the Social Sustainability Colloquium for an introduction to complementary currencies and how they can help empower local communities and government to create meaningful employment and reclaim a future for our public commons and the public good.

The presentation is by Harriet Cooke, MD, MPH, whose passion for the roots of disease led her to sustainability issues, economics, and Transition Portland Complementary Currency Working Group.
