The recognition of women, their presence and achievements, by Industries in the Middle East is gradually emerging. Their impact in the oil and gas and petrochemical industries are no exceptions. Women are being considered for senior and pivotal roles in organizations as well as for distinguished awards, honors, and certification. These recognitions, in turn, become catalysts and drivers stimulating the opportunities in leadership and excellence for women.
Bayan D. Alhubail began her career in the petrochemical industry in July 2012. A double major graduate of Portland State University (USA) with Bachelor degrees in Human Resources Management and Management and Leadership, she is working for Sadara Chemical Company—a US$20 billion joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical—as an Organisation Development Advisor. Apart from achieving a successful career, her passion is to advance noble causes such as promoting women excellence and leadership in the corporate world. Alhubail wishes to leverage her position with one of the world's largest petrochemical ventures to raise the profile of women, many whom have worked hard to make a career in the traditionally male-domincated petrochemical industry.
"In recent times, I have seen growing number of examples where women earn senior positions and take on large responsibilities in major companies. This trend serves as a great impetus for me to emulate these women's examples of success as I embark on my path to meet and exceed my own goals at Sadara," says Alhubail. Bayan recently joined the Publicity & Marketing Committee of the 2nd Middle east Process Engineering conference & Exhibition (MEPEC 2013). The Chairman of MEPEC 2013 has requested the group to come up with a sustainable initiative that will contribute to the development of women and celebrate their achievements. Alhubail and fellow industry peer, Ali Juman Al Ghamdi from SABIC accepted the challenge and the idea of Leadership Excellence for Women Awards (LEWA) emerged and is gradually taking shape.
"We believe the awards will generate a lot of interest with the many companies already supporting women in the industry and through MEPEC," Alhubail says.
Leaderhip Excellence for Women Awards (LEWA) at MEPEC 2013
The Leadership Excellence for Women Awards (LEWA) is an award program dedicated to recognizing excellence for women in the Oil & Gas industry. LEWA is a celebration of innovation, leadership, achievement and talent as demonstrated by women in the academic and business sectors of the industry. One of the awards honors eminent engineers for career accomplishments to the institutes. And the other set of awards is to honor individuals for excellence in their technical fields.
