Added Elementary Authorization
The Added Elementary Authorization Program is an innovative part-time program beginning each summer and ending the following spring. The program is designed for licensed specialty or secondary teachers who are looking to retool in order to fill multiple professional roles or change their positions.
Four-term cohort format - Network more effectively by participating with colleagues throughout the entire curriculum as a cohort.
Practical, mentored experience - Supervised field experiences are completed within the age and grade ranges specified for the desired authorization level(s).
Expanded skills - Program completers will earn an authorization in either early childhood or elementary - or both levels - which qualifies the professional to teach in a general education classroom.
The four-term Added Elementary Authorization program allows a teacher with a current Initial or Standard Oregon teaching license to add an elementary authorization to their basic or continuing license. The 32-credit program can be completed in conjunction with a Masters degree in Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction. Teachers work with an advisor to develop a 45-credit Program of Study that is appropriate for their professional goals and interests.
Potential candidates for the Added Elementary Endorsement
- K-12 licensed specialists
- Licensed middle or high school teachers who wish to teach in an elementary school
- Licensed special education teachers who wish to teach in a K-8 self-contained classroom
