2010 MESA Day
Friday, May 14, 2009 - Peter Stott Center - 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The American Society for Engineering Education states that, "women and minorities are still underrepresented in engineering." In addition, the United States continues to face an engineering gap where countries like China are producing, on average, 600,000 new engineers a year, while the US produces just 70,000. Portland State University and Oregon MESA (Math, Engineering, Science, Achievement) will host their annual MESA Day 2009, an event designed to attract more middle and high school students to science, technology, engineering and math careers. Through school based programs, Oregon MESA strives to increase the number of diverse and women engineers in Oregon. Over 350 diverse middle school and high school students from 13 schools in the greater Portland area have worked on projects in teams to prepare for MESA Day. Two teams will earn a trip to represent Oregon at the National MESA USA competition in Maryland.

2010 Intel Undergraduate Research and Mentoring Program

The Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science offers undergraduate students paid research opportunities through the Intel Undergraduate Research and Mentoring Program for students that are interested in electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering as well as computer science. The Maseeh College recognizes the importance of mentoring undergraduate students in the areas of cross-disciplinary research, graduate engineering education, and industry partnerships.

2010 Engineering Discovery Showcase - TBD                                                       

The Engineering Discovery Showcase is a fun, hands-on, interactive event for students interested in engineering and computer science. Meet PSU engineering and computer science faculty and students; learn about the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science degree programs and innovative research opportunities through interactive lab tours. This is a great opportunity to discover more about student life as well as hands-on engineering design and research.

All participants under the age of 18 years of age must be registered by a parent or guardian. All participants must be registered (all participants under the age of 18 must be registered by a parent or guardian). All participants are required to view our liability waiver before online registration.  If you do not agree to the terms of this document please contact Kristen Nieman. PLEASE NOTE:  During business hours, the College (excluding certain housing facilities) will be open to students, parents, employees, contractors, guests, and invitees. During non business hours access to all College facilities is by key, if issued, or by admittance via the Public Safety Office. In the case of periods of extended closing, the College will admit only those with prior written approval to all facilities. 

2010 MCECS Engineering Design Competition- TBD

A diverse group of more than 200 middle and high school students from Oregon and Southwest Washington will compete in the 2009 MCECS Engineering Design Competition, sponsored by the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University. The MCECS Engineering Design Competition provides local middle and high school students the opportunity to engage in hands-on engineering projects, while also having fun. Teams from different schools will square off in competitions that include building bridges, mouse traps, straw towers and trebuchets, and creating edible cars. The competitions will be judged by student groups and organizations within the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science.
