Chad Norvell, an undergraduate in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, has been named the 2012 recipient of the Student Founders Award by Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA).

The award was presented on Saturday, March 24, during the 10th Anniversary celebration of EWB-USA held in conjunction with the Ninth Annual EWB-USA International Conference, which took place in Las Vegas, NV.

The award recognizes outstanding leadership and is given for embracing the vision and advancing the mission of EWB-USA.  This award recognizes individual EWB-USA members who exhibit outstanding leadership in their regions, chapters and/or project teams by fostering responsible leadership with other members, chapters and partnering communities and helping partner communities meet their basic human needs.

Chad has been a member of EWB-USA since 2008. He served as president of the PSU chapter for two years, during which he increased membership and project opportunities for the chapter. He is currently serving as president of the West Coast Region, which includes chapters in six Western states. Chad has served as project lead for several EWB-USA community projects in Nicaragua, including prevention of flooding at an elementary school and providing clean water to a rural community, traveling on five site trips. He will receive his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering this June.

“Chad Norvell is a student that exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding, dedicated leader who creates an environment that inspires the very best from his colleagues,” said Cathy Leslie, Executive Director of EWB-USA.  “He is a humble and approachable person who possesses a personal integrity that demonstrates both strong leadership as well as a willingness to work collaboratively with others within the area to create an unwavering and dedicated chapter of EWB-USA; we are thrilled to bestow this award to such a deserving member.”

Congratulations, Chad!
