Paid Research Opportunities for Undergraduate Students
Program Overview:
The Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science offers undergraduate students paid research opportunities through the Undergraduate Research and Mentoring Program for students that are interested in electrical, mechanical, civil and computer engineering as well as computer science. The Maseeh College recognizes the importance of mentoring undergraduate students in the areas of cross-disciplinary research, graduate engineering education, and industry partnerships. Students accepted into our program will be part of a cohort that will work with MCECS faculty and participate in engineering conferences, educational presentations, special events, and stimulating undergraduate research projects. Students that are accepted into this program will work one on one with MCECS faculty in designing a research project. The cohort will meet during the fall, winter and spring terms (September 2009 through June 2010).
Eligibility:
Students must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, enrolled as an undergraduate student at Portland State University, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and have an interest in electrical engineering, computer engineering, civil engineering, computer science, or mechanical and materials engineering. Women and underrepresented students are encouraged to apply.
Requirements:
Students will be required to present their research project at the student run student led end of the year presentation.
Students will be required to participate in an outreach presentation. Presentation options include: MESA Day, at a local high school, or at an engineering conference. The MESA Day presentation is strongly encouraged.
Students will be required to work ten hours per week on their research project. (Max of 320 hours)
Application Process:
Student application packages are due no later than Wednesday, September 2nd.
