Employer Relations at Portland State University
Why Recruit at PSU?
Engaged Citizens and Lifelong Learners
PSU offers 220 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degree options, as well as graduate certificates and continuing education programs. It is Oregon's largest and most diverse university, with some 30,000 students from all 50 states and from nearly 100 nations around the world. During their time here, each student is required to complete general education requirements called University Studies to provide the breadth of knowledge and skills expected from college graduates. This coursework emphasizes communication, critical thinking, social and ethical responsibility, and diversity of the human experience.
Additionally, all students are required to complete Senior Capstones, a community-based learning course in which students work as a team to research and develop projects addressing community challenges. Many Capstones work with schools, non-profit organizations, and city agencies. This nationally recognized program is unique to PSU and provides students with the soft skills required in the working world. Skills such as problem solving, teamwork, and communication are all encouraged and exercised during these senior year experiences.
PSU’s motto “Let Knowledge Serve the City” is incorporated into curricula regardless of the field of study and provides graduates with the sense of purpose and wider perspective needed to address real world problems.
