CALL FOR PROPOSALS:

2005-2006 STRT (Scholarship of Teaching Resource Team) Program

Proposal DUE DATE: October 11, 2005

THE CENTER FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE (CAE) is pleased to announce the 7th year of the STRT program. STRT supports faculty who are working to complete specific writing projects, including those related to the scholarship of teaching and learning. Most successful STRT proposals focus on preparation of papers for submission to professional journals, presentations at professional conferences, and grant proposals. We welcome projects on community engagement, teaching and student learning, diversity, internationalization, and teaching with technology (for examples, see http://www.oaa.pdx.edu/cae/strtteams0102.html).

SPECIAL STRT GROUP FOR 05-06—GO INTERNATIONAL!For faculty interested in developing courses that include short-term international experiences for students. As their STRT project, members will write a syllabus for a new course or course redesign, submit a proposal to the UCC or Grad Council, and develop a formal course assessment plan. Facilitated by Kevin Kecskes, with a consultant from the Office of International Affairs.

ALL STRT GROUPS meet once a month for two hours to discuss and advance the group members’ writing projects. Former participants report that membership in STRT has facilitated the completion of a scholarly writing project, and that they have benefited from the support of a community of scholars interested in teaching and learning issues. Please do not apply if you cannot commit to these meetings. STRT meets the third Thursday of each month from 3:00-5:00 pm (10/20, 11/17, 1/19, 2/16, 4/20, and 5/18).

Award money will be distributed in two categories:

Grant I: Awards of $500 for STRT participants. Funds are intended to support your research or professional development. Travel must comply with the State of Oregon travel restrictions. Faculty may apply individually or in teams (one grant per team). Awardees will share the results of their research progress at the monthly STRT meetings and work autonomously between meetings towards completion of their proposed project. Participants may be asked to write a short report on their STRT project.

Grant II: Awards of $500 for STRT consultants. Consultants attend monthly meetings, share their expertise with team members, and assist in meeting facilitation. They may also be asked to write a short reflection on their experience.

All members of the PSU faculty are welcome to apply. For more information contact the CAE at 725-5642 or e-mail caestaff@pdx.edu or balshem@pdx.edu.

Deadline for Application: Monday, October 10, 2005. Please send applications to caestaff@pdx.edu or bring them to the CAE (Cramer 303).
