Jacob Sherman has joined the staff of the Institute for Sustainable Solutions full time in the newly created position of sustainability curriculum coordinator. Sherman will work closely with community partners and PSU faculty, administrators, students, and ISS staff to enhance existing programs and develop new opportunities to integrate sustainability across learning opportunities.
Sherman has been working at PSU since becoming a peer mentor in the University Studies program in 2008, and he transitions into his new role from his prior position as an ISS-funded undergraduate research, engagement, and creative activities coordinator within University Studies. The transition of the position from UNST to ISS reflects its support of the PSU-wide sustainability agenda.
“Jacob’s passion for creating meaningful learning experiences and getting students out of the classroom and into the community will be put to work collaborating with PSU’s many partners,” said Fletcher Beaudoin, assistant director at the Institute for Sustainable Solutions.
Sherman will be collaborating with faculty and students across the university and with the Office of Academic Innovation to develop programs that bring sustainability to the forefront of the academic experience. Among his duties will be overseeing the Sustainable Neighborhoods Initiative, which focuses on deploying PSU faculty and students to work on projects addressing economic resilience, social justice and environmental integrity in Portland neighborhoods.
