The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is pleased to announce William Farley's MS Thesis Defense: "An Analysis of Bicycle-Vehicle Interactions at Signalized Intersections with Bicycle Boxes."
Date: Monday, December 9, 2013
Location: Engineering Building 315 (ITS Lab)
Adviser: Dr. Christopher Monsere
Bike boxes have been installed at intersections around Portland in an attempt to reduce crashes between bicycles and right-turning motor vehicles. A review of over 600 hours of video gathered at fourteen intersections was performed to explore any possible safety impacts resulting from the intersection treatment. This thesis presents results from a bicycle-vehicle conflict analysis and a crash data analysis at intersections that have received bike box treatment.
