Professor Carol Gluck, George Sansom Professor of History at Columbia University, is one of the most celebrated historians in the world and the foremost social scientist working on Japan today.
In this lecture, Professor Gluck will reexamine four questions always asked about modern Japanese history by putting them in a global context, thus situating Japan's experience of modernization in terms of "modernity in common."
Supported by the Japan-United States Friendship Comission (JUSFC) and Distinguished Speakers Bureau of the Northeast Asia Council of the Association for Asian Studies.
