Salmon & Schulmerich Scholarship Winner
Morgan Damm has been awarded the Salmon & Schulmerich Scholarship for 2013-14. "Ever since I was a child, animals have been my unwavering passion and there is nothing I would rather do with my time than work with them to keep them happy, healthy, and frolicking!" Morgan Staes. "Medicine is fascinating and I enjoy dissecting the way a body works. Between working at a small animal veterinary clinic, volunteering with a donkey rescue, and shadowing my own horse’s veterinarian, I seem to always have a stethoscope draped around my neck. I plan to go to OSU College of Veterinary Medicine, receive my DVM degree, open my own practice for equines, and run my own horse rescue for slaughter-bound horses that so desperately need a second chance in life. This scholarship gets me just that much closer to achieving my dream. Thank you John Salmon and Marcia Schulmerich!"
The scholarship was started by two Biology Department alumni, John Salmon (BS ’67 and MA ’72) and Marcia Schulmerich (BS ’69). After graduating from PSU, John and Marcia trained in and went on to successful careers in Medical Technology. They have always been grateful for the educational experience they received at PSU. John and Marcia recognize the limited financial means of many PSU students and in a sense of community, wish to financially support other Biology students with aspirations to a career in the health professions. This scholarship provides one recipient with $2,500 toward their PSU educational expenses for the 2013-14 academic year.
