Profile: Meet Professor Emeritus Michihiro Kosuge

Whether sculpting granite or shaping students, Michihiro Kosuge creates a legacy of art for the region.

Professor Michihiro Kosuge can look at a piece of raw granite and see beauty. The ability to mold giant rocks into acclaimed works of art has made him one of the Northwest's most collectible sculptors. It has also made him one of the Northwest's finest professors of Art. Michi can also see what's special beneath the surface of our students. At Portland State, young artists get to learn from the metropolitan area's only Master of Fine Arts program in the visual arts-in return, our community gets one of the nation's most thriving art scenes. And that paints a pretty picture.
