Kyle Konis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at Portland State University. His research is focused on studying the impact of architectural design assumptions in terms of energy and human-factors outcomes through the post-occupancy evaluation of buildings.
Prior to joining the faculty at Portland State University, Kyle worked as a graduate research assistant with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's Windows and Daylighting Group on projects for the U.S. Department of Energy and the California Energy Commission. As a component of his dissertation at U.C. Berkeley, Kyle completed a six-month post occupancy evaluation of the San Francisco Federal Building (90 Seventh Street), involving 45 occupants in collaboration with LBNL and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). This research seeks to improve the feedback loop between architectural design decisions and building performance by integrating detailed user-assessment as a critical instrument in the design and operation of the building facade.
Kyle is a registered Architect in the State of Washington and has worked for the firms Bohlin Cywinski Jackson in Seattle and Sir Michael Hopkins in the UK.
