Planning a schedule

Once you become familiar with the graduation requirements for PSU, you are ready to plan your schedule for the next term, the next year, and possibly for the remainder of your time at PSU. It is important to use the following materials when planning your schedule:

  1. The Bulletin (catalog), which contains information about the PSU graduation requirements, descriptions of all the courses offered, and information about prerequisites.
  2. The Schedule of Classes, which contains the courses that are taught during a particular term (with the course's specific course reference number, time, location, and instructor's name).
  3. The Course Planning Guide, which indicates which terms (fall, winter, spring) each department is tentatively planning to offer a particular course since not all courses are taught every term or year.

It is important to note which courses are taught as a sequence and may be started only fall term and which courses have prerequisites or co-requisites that must be completed prior to taking the courses or at the same time as the course is taken. It is also important for you to understand the course numbering system.

Advisers generally recommend that you plan to take courses that meet your graduation requirements concurrently (e.g., a foreign language course for the Bachelor of Arts requirement, a Sophomore Inquiry course for the general education requirement, and a course in your major).

Courses needed to complete requirements for a minor, certificate, or second major should also be included in your schedule.

Please refer to the printed Schedule of Classes or the Registration and Records web site for information on how to register.
