Peace Corps at PSU

"Today's Peace Corps is more vital than ever, working in emerging and essential areas such as information technology and business development, and contributing to the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Peace Corps Volunteers continue to help countless individuals who want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their communities."*

Since President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps by executive order on March 1, 1961, more than 210,000 Americans have served in 139 host countries. Today, 8,073 volunteers are working with local communities in 76 host countries in agriculture, community economic development, education, environment, health and youth in development. Peace Corps volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age. Peace Corps service is a 27-month commitment and the agency’s mission is to promote world peace and friendship and a better understanding between Americans and people of other countries.*

Peace Corps at PSU is located in the Advising & Career Services office. During Fall, Winter, and Spring terms, the office is staffed by a graduate student who is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV).

Each quarter, Peace Corps recruiters present informational sessions and slide shows about the Peace Corps experience, staff information booths at events, and conduct interviews on campus. There are also free books, brochures, and videos available to those interested in volunteering. The Peace Corps Office welcomes inquiries from both students and community members.
