Ways for Oregon Residents
to Pay for College

1. University Scholarships

Portland State offers a large number of scholarships based upon:

  • Academic achievement
  • Financial need
  • Field of study
  • Contributions of diverse and unique backgrounds
  • First-generation college student status
  • Disabilities
  • Specific majors and career choices
  • Service to school and community
  • Leadership achievements

Many Portland State University scholarships have a February 1, 2008 application deadline. Don’t miss out on these opportunities!

Visit www.pdx.edu/finaid/scholarships.html for detailed scholarship information, and to access the online application. You’ll also find information and links to other state and national scholarship databases.

One link from the PSU scholarship website is to the Oregon Student Assistance Commission -- www.osac.state.or.us -- which offers more than 370 scholarships for Oregon residents. Applications are due by March 1, 2008.

2. Oregon Opportunity Grant Awards

Depending upon your financial aid eligibility, Oregon residents may receive renewable awards of up to $3,200 per year. Award sizes vary based upon financial need. 2008 is the first year these awards are made possible so don’t miss out!

Application for the new Oregon Opportunity Grant Program through the FAFSA process begins January 1, 2008. For an estimate of your individual award amount, an easy-to-use grant calculator is available at www.osac.state.or.us/SRMEstimator/

Ways for Out-of-State Residents
to Pay for College

1. Out-of-State Opportunity Scholarship

This is a merit-based award that offers eligible non-Oregon resident students up to $6,500 in renewable scholarships. Apply online today! Take advantage of the early scholarship awards that begin this month! You will find the easy-to-complete scholarship application at www.pdx.edu/admissions/oosscholarships.html

2. Western Undergraduate Exchange Awards

This is another merit-based award for students from certain of western US states. You may be eligible for tuition discounts of approximately $9,000 per year. You must be entering PSU for the first time and your cumulative high school GPA must be at least 3.25. If you are a transfer student, your college GPA must be at least 2.50 to be eligible. Go to www.pdx.edu/admissions/oosscholarships.html to see if your home state participates in this program and to see the list of 21 eligible academic programs offering this tuition discount to non-resident students.

3. Other University Scholarships

Our Community Partner: The Wetlands Conservatory: TWC works with local communities, land trusts, watershed councils, and state resource managers to build local stewardship and acquire lands. TWC and PSU's Geography Department have created a website to disseminate information about the state's important wetlands.
