On March 7th, 2013 over 130 health profession students, faculty, and community members gathered in-person and on the web [from Oregon, Washington, Colorado, California, Idaho, Arizona, Massachusetts and New Jersey] to learn about health system transformation in Oregon. Dr. Bruce Goldberg, MD, Director of the Oregon Health Authority, was the evening’s keynote speaker. He provided an excellent overview of the development and implementation of Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) in the State of Oregon.  After Dr. Goldberg's keynote, expert panelists discussed CCOs, providing thoughtful insight from each of their perspectives. The panel was comprised of Dr. Christina E. Milano, MD, Family physician and educator at OHSU; Dr. Tom Ewing, MD, Executive VP and CMO at PacificSource Health Plans; and Mr. John Hummel, JD, MPP, State and Federal Policy Director for the Oregon Primary Care Association. Dr. Milano spoke about how the transformative work is manifesting at the ground level and at OHSU at-large. Dr. Ewing provided his insight about the CCO experience in Central Oregon; speaking specifically to the formation, principles and governance, and the foundation for community-wide strategic planning. Mr. Hummel discussed CCO decision-making and the importance of consumers having a voice in the process.

Afterward, guests and panelists joined the PSU & OHSU Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School Leadership Team for complementary food and drink and a chance to network with other health care professionals.
