National Student Exchange for Students Wishing to Attend PSU

How to Get Started

Portland State University's location in downtown Portland provides students with a unique and exciting atmosphere. Life in the city is vibrant and enriched by diversity. Explore the PSU web site for a better sense of what our campus is like. When you decide that you want to exchange to PSU, contact an NSE coordinator at your home campus for an NSE application.

Limitations

Enrollment in business administration, computer science, engineering, fine art, and graphic design courses is competitive and cannot be guaranteed. No undergraduate education courses are available. NSE participants are not eligible to enroll in University Studies courses including Freshman Inquiry, Sophomore Inquiry, Junior Cluster courses and Senior Capstones. Exchange is not available to students from other Oregon NSE campuses.

Other Things to Consider

Campus housing is available on a space-available basis. If accepted to Portland State University, we encourage you to apply for housing as early as possible.

Portland State's academic year consists of three 10-week quarters: fall, winter, and spring. If your home campus is on semesters you should be aware of your campus policy regarding accepting quarter credits. Usually one quarter credit transfers as 2/3 semester credit, so you may have to take two courses to satisfy one requirement. This is why a full year exchange is recommended.

Your time in Oregon on NSE does not apply toward establishing residency in Oregon. For more information about Oregon residency rules, see the residency page.

Graduate, postbaccalaureate, and international students are not eligible to attend Portland State through NSE.
